TIMBERLAKE, Kenneth R., 92, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Born in and raised in New Kent County, Ken was the son of Richard and Louise Timberlake. The second of four children, he was born at home by Doctor Johnson of Lanexa, Va. His older brother, Louis Bland Timberlake, passed away at a young age which made Ken the eldest child to help his family. Left to cherish his memory is his younger brother, Richard H. Timberlake of Lanexa; and his younger sister, Marjorie Timberlake Bland of Shanghai, Va.; as well as the children and grandchildren who will miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann (Hazelwood), and his second wife of 56 years, Louise (Lacy). He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Anne McClellan of Bensalem, Pa. and Carolyn Rae Anderson of Washington, D.C.; his son, Rick Timberlake of Cape Charles; and his stepdaughters, Cathy Cray and Donna Kurtze, both of Richmond. His nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren carry Ken Timberlake's spirit of livelihood and lasting love. Ken was a mechanic who enjoyed all sports and never failed to help others. He loved baseball and was immensely proud of his great-grandsons, Jackson and Jeb Cray, for their prowess on the field. Retired from C&P Telephone Company, Ken spent much of his later life working yard sales in the area. He was constantly fixing up old lamps and vacuum cleaners and selling them at some degree of profit. Ken was motivated to stay busy and rebuild things, but got the most pleasure out of simply meeting and talking to people who worked around him. He warmed quickly to everyone who knew him, and built long-lasting relationships with people from all walks of life. Ken eschewed vacations, preferring to stay home, be at work, or visit with family. He understood the complexity of an automatic transmission, but desired the simple joy of fishing. Ken didn't serve in the military or go to college, but he passed on the values of hard work, good manners, and what is right so that his children and their children, who would know the value of service and secondary education. Some became lawyers, some became Marine Corps sergeants. All owe some degree of their focus to Ken Timberlake. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 28, at the Woody Funeral Home in Mechanicsville, Va. The family will gather one hour prior, and a visit to the gravesite will follow the funeral service.
