Obituary
LANEXA - Jean Slater Wilder, 73, passed from this earthly life, March 16, 2009.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, John R. Wilder; her parents, Edward and Susie Slater; a sister, Iris Slater Garrett and husband, Raymond; and a brother-in-law, Charles Wilder.
She is survived by her son, John E. Wilder and his wife, Mary Wilder of New Jersey; daughters, Jeanette Ancell and husband, Mark Ancell of Ohio, and Judith Young and husband, the Rev. Roy Young of Washington; grandchildren, John and Jim Wilder, Jennifer and Christopher Walls (and their father, Wayne Walls), and Roy Jr., Tom, Adam, and Ashlee Young; and great-grandson Jasher Young. Jean is also survived by her brother, Albert Slater and wife, Betty, of Lanexa, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wilder Garrett and husband, the Rev. Meredith Garrett of Chesapeake, Va., and Florence Wilder of Napa, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Jean was born and raised in James City County, graduated from Toano High School in 1953 and later attended Thomas Nelson Community College. She was a lifelong dedicated and faithful Christian with a passion for church and local history and researching family genealogy. She was employed by the Pentagon in Washington D.C., the Security Office of Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, William and Mary College Library, and also sold real estate locally for several years. Jean was recently an appointed member of the Board of Equalization of James City County.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va., and from 1 to 2 p.m. tomorrow, at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, Va., with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. The burial will follow in the church cemetery, after which the family will fellowship with friends and celebrate Jean's life.

Obituary
LANEXA - John Ray Wilder of Lanexa, Va., passed from his earthly life into eternity, July 4, 2005, his 71st birthday. He was born in Middlesex County, N.C. His parents, John Oliver and Lillian Mullen Wilder, and brother, Master Sgt. Charles Thomas Wilder, preceded him in death. Mr. Wilder moved to the Williamsburg area with his family in the 1940s. He attended Matthew Whaley School and graduated from Toano High School in 1953. After high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves and later served in the U.S. Air Force in Lowers AFB, Colorado, Osan AB, Korea, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. John attended several banking schools, including Louisiana State University School of Banking. He was active in several civic clubs. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and watching sporting events. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was the charter leader of the Toano Boy Scout Troop. He was employed with the Peninsula Bank and Trust Company, the James-York Bank, the Old Point National Bank, the Colonial Bank and the Bank of Suffolk. He began his banking career as an errand runner and rose to the office of bank president. He also worked for the Pullman-Kellogg Company and the Southland Corp. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jean Slater Wilder; son, John Edward Wilder and wife, Mary, of New Jersey; daughters, Elizabeth Jeanette Wilder Ancell and husband, Mark, of Ohio, and Judith Wilder Young and husband, the Rev. Roy Young, of Washington; sister, Betty Lou Wilder Garrett and husband, Dr. Meredith Garrett Sr. of Chesapeake, Va.; sister-in-law, Florence L. Wilder; grandchildren, C3C, USAF John Peter Wilder, James Ryan Wilder, Roy Young Jr., Tom Young, Adam Young, Ashley Young, Jennifer Leigh Walls, Christopher Michael Walls and their father, Wayne Walls; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
