PEACHTREE CITY, GA. - Carroll 'C.T.' Hazelwood, a Virginia native, died of complications from cancer on May 2, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born in Richmond, Va., on Oct. 27, 1941, to Ruth Ada Walls Hazelwood and Howell P. Hazelwood Sr. and lived much of his early life in Toano, Va. He graduated from James Blair High School in 1960 and began his forest products career in West Point, Va., with Chesapeake Corporation. After receiving a full scholarship from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., he graduated with honors in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Pulp and Paper Science and Technology. In 1980, C.T. graduated from The University Of Houston in Houston, Texas, with a Masters in Business Administration. He served on the TAPPI Board before moving to Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, as President and CEO of Northwood Pulp and Timber Limited. C.T. was elected to serve as chair of the board for British Columbia's Council of Forest Industries in 1993. He also was selected as the 1994 recipient of the College of Forest Resources Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 1995, he went on to serve as Chairman of the Board of Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada and represented Canada at the Japanese/Canadian Conference for four years. He retired from Canfor Corporation in 2002 as Executive Vice-President of Operations. C.T. loved his family, his colleagues, and his work. He enjoyed antique cars, hunting and Canadian fishing. He truly enjoyed the 13 years he and his wife Katherine resided in Canada. C.T. is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 45 years, Katherine Russell Hazelwood of Peachtree City, Ga.; beloved son and daughter, Thomas Marchant Hazelwood of Lebanon, Tenn., and Holly Hazelwood Martin of Newnan, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Amy Ingersoll Hazelwood; son-in-law, Michael Dwane Martin; grandson, Robert Russell Hazelwood, and granddaughter, Katherine 'Kate' Louise Martin; as well as cherished nieces, nephews and friends. His beloved brother, Howell P. Hazelwood Jr., and his parents preceded him in death. Graveside funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 6, at the family cemetery, Rose Garden Cemetery, in Toano, Va. Memorials may be made to the Prince George Community Foundation Hazelwood Family Fund, P.O. Box 1204, Station A, 2880 15th Ave., Prince George, BC Canada V2L 4V3. Proceeds from this fund go to Deaf or Hard of Hearing students at Caldonia Community College, Prince George, British Columbia.
