Anne, known as "Sugar" to many, was born in Annapolis, MD as the second of three daughters of Navy Capt. Franklin W. and Anne Redmond Slaven. During her childhood, she lived on many Navy bases across the country graduating from high school in Vallejo, CA before obtaining her BA in Physics from Goucher College in Baltimore, MD. Along the way, she discovered her love of dance that she put to good use at many a Naval Academy dance. She began her career at the Navy's Engineering Experiment Station in Annapolis, MD, which would later become part of the David Taylor Research Center.
In July of 1959, she married Lt. Col. Bertram L Parr. As an Army wife, she traveled extensively including an exciting stop in Poland in the 1960's while her husband was posted as an assistant Army attache in the US Embassy. She had two sons during her military years and upon her husband's retirement the family settled down on a farm in Queenstown, MD in 1970. The family took on the challenge of several different businesses including, dairy farming, landscaping, and a tree nursery. As her boys got older and headed off to college, she did return to her career at the David Taylor Research Center where she worked for several more years before retirement in the late 90's.
Always spiritual, she joined the local Wye of Carmichael United Methodist Church soon after settling in Queenstown. She held several positions in the church over the years and remained an active member until her passing. She was always looking for ways to help others.
She is survived by her sons Steve Parr of Columbia and Bob Parr of Rockville; her grandchildren Brandon, Courtney, and Dylan of Rockville, her two sisters, Nancy Reams of Annapolis and Jane Nelson of Bowie; and her longtime friend and companion, Ed Walden of Hurlock.
