Obituary
Robert Henry Flourance was born September 27, 1948 in Washington, DC to Henry Atchison Florance and Margaret Edith Ferguson. He spent his childhood between Falls Church and Gainesville, VA. He often recalled a fondness for his early days, enjoying the peaceful rural settings of his family homes where he discovered Civil War and Native American artifacts, sparking a lifelong curiosity in the past.

Upon graduation from Falls Church High School he attended George Mason University, from which he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in History. While attending college he met his partner for life, Sandra Bell of Vienna, VA, whom he married in 1971.They eventually settled in Arlington County Virginia to raise two children: Sarah Ferguson Flourance and William Bell Flourance. He was also known for his particular fondness of Cairn Terriers as companions throughout his adulthood.

Robert began a lifelong career in Real Estate, shifting from appraisals to the pursuit of his own enterprises. His greatest success came from the management of various properties - primarily Victory Warehouses of Manassas Park. He was an incredibly diligent businessman and furthered his career through his affable demeanor and fundamental sense of respect he extended towards his associates.

He was a musician and composer, a historian of Pre-Colonial and Colonial American culture as well as Ancient European cultures, and a linguist who kept a daily diary in Latin for over a decade. He was also an ardent researcher of his own family's history, reuniting its branches with the help of his Cousin (who he considered a Brother) James Florence.

Robert Flourance was perhaps known best for being both deeply individualistic yet incredibly dependable and caring. He was a source of endless wisdom and humor, often sharing both within the same breath. He was a man who lived a life full of love and commitment to his friends and family. He lives on in the songs, lessons, laughter, and love he gave to us. May he rest in peace.
