Obituary
Marian McMichael Ratterree, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on March 27, 2018 after living a long and full life.
Marian was born on March 8, 1929, and grew up in Nokesville, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents Annie Hooe McMichael and Francis Earle McMichael, her siblings Thomas A. McMichael, Marguerite M. Fountain, Arlene M. Lynch, Elizabeth McMichael, Dorothy M. Clatterbuck, and her son Michael Ratterree. She is survived by her sister Frances M. Marrett (Hal), and her granddaughters Frances Angell and Sharon Ratterree. In addition, she is survived by four generations of numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian loved to travel, whether to Europe or on a nearby day trip. One of her favorite adventures was touring Ireland and Scotland. Reading and watching movies were also cherished pastimes. She had an enthusiasm for flowers and enjoyed them while on nature hikes, visiting garden shows, and tending to them in her home.
People who know and love Marian will all remember her fun-loving personality. Her time with family and friends was punctuated by her positive energy, and she brought enthusiasm to every conversation, event and gathering. Marian’s sense of style is remembered in the scarves, unique pins and beautiful colors she wore.
Marian’s legacy is marked by the love and sincere positive regard she had for her family and friends. Her favorite family times were spent with children. Even in her later years she could be found playing and laughing with the young ones. She was always willing to help people in many ways, especially by having a listening ear and offering sound observations and advice. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville, VA with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment in the church cemetery.
