Obituary
George Allen Croushorn went to meet his Lord and Savior on April 2, 2020.
George was born in Nokesville, Virginia, on October 25, 1929, to Roscoe and Lyla Sonafrank Croushorn. He was one of five children. George graduated from the University of Maryland in 1953. The Air Force sent him to Wolter's Air Force Base in January 1954, where he met and married June Shewmake on January 11, 1956.
He was sent overseas for 18 months and returned to Mineral Wells, where he worked at the Texas Employment Commission for the next 35 years. George was a longtime member (64 years) of Salesville Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, treasurer, Sunday School director and numerous other positions.
He was president of North Rural Water for several years and was a longtime election judge for Palo Pinto County. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. George loved his God, family, church family, friends, and neighbors. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved playing softball (usually as the pitcher), and "42" which was his game. He tirelessly rooted for the Dallas Cowboys and his 'Terps. Most of all, he never complained about all the many stray animals June brought home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ralph, Bert, and Kenneth Croushorn, and his brother in law Metha Shewmake.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, June; daughters, Sharon and Jerry Puckett, of Perrin and Stacy Croushorn, of Mineral Wells; his grandchildren, Erin Davis Hoover and Trey, of Fort Worth; Alan Davis, of Palestine; step-grandson, Jason and Leta Puckett, of Ozona; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Lauren Elizabeth, and Matthew Hoover of Fort Worth; step great-grandchildren Jarryn, Luke, Robert Earl, and Brett Puckett of Ozona; his brother Paul and Carolyn Croushorn of Summerduck, Va.; his beloved little sister, Margaret Webb, of Kalispell, Montana; sisters-in-law, Joy Shewmake, of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Sheila and Bill Guckian, of Fort Worth; and his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Charles and Betty Shewmake who did so much for all of us, his caregivers at College Park Nursing Home and Rehab and the wonderful nurses from Encompass Home Health.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, Palo Pinto Humane Society or the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter.
Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
