A longtime resident of Mooresville, Wilma was a 1944 graduate of Mooresville High School. She worked as an office manager for many years for various doctor's offices, most recently with Dr. James Moran's office in Greenwood, where she retired. Strong in her faith, she was a charter member of the 50/50 Class, Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir and was an 86-year member at The First Christian Church in Mooresville. Faith and family were very important to her. She stayed active in her community as a Past President of the PTO and headed the first Post Prom Celebration at Mooresville High School. She was also Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #260.

In more recent years, Wilma enjoyed traveling in her Airstream camper and camping at various state and National Parks. She especially enjoyed her trips out west to Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico to see the annual Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque and had seen 49 of the 50 states. She will be remembered as a kind, loving, happy spirit, who enjoyed sharing stories with her family. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Maurice Free. Later in life, she married William Rusie Jr, who passed in 2009. She is also preceded in death by her son, Marc C. Free; and a brother, Mitchell Denny.

She is survived by three children; one sister; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 12-2 PM for Wilma's Life Celebration at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville, with services to begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
