Smitty was born a twin. His sister was Dixie. She preceded him in death. Smitty died of cancer at the age of 74. Born in Washington D.C. in 1932. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania. Smitty lived most of his life in Northern Virginia before he retired to Naples, Florida in 1997. He moved to Port Angeles, Washington in 2004 and stayed until his death in 2007. Smitty was a busy man. He became a golf pro, a business owner, horse trainer and police officer.
