RACKETT, Roland Nathaniel Jr., 94, died at Westminster Canterbury on Saturday, March 20, 2010. He was born December 23, 1915 in Richmond, the son of R. Nathaniel Rackett Sr. and Beulah Germelman Rackett. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eleanora Drucilla Taylor Rackett. Mr. Rackett graduated from John Marshall High School and attended the University of Richmond. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII and retired in 1981 as president of Richmond Paper Company, Inc. He was an elder at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, an active participant in the Shepherd's Center, the Open University and the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. An avid local historian and woodworker, he received the Laurel Award from Westminster Canterbury in part for his historical tours of Richmond. He is survived by two children, R. Nathaniel Rackett III of Savannah, Ga. and Nan Rackett Covert of Fort Defiance, Va.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church. Interment is private. Memorials can be made to the Fellowship Fund at Westminster Canterbury, Ginter Park Presbyterian Church or the Shepherd's Center.
