Mrs. Louise Bailey Elam, 92, widow of Thomas William Elam, died Monday, January 21, 2008 in Amelia, VA.

Formerly of Clarksville, Mrs. Elam was born and reared in the Jeffress community and was the daughter of Delaware Harold and Mattie Minor Bailey.

A graduate of Clarksville High School and Longwood College, Mrs. Elam was a retired school teacher having taught at Black Branch and Palmers Springs. She then was employed with and retired from the Child Welfare Department.

Graveside services were held at 10am on Friday, January 25, 2008, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Elam is survived by her sons, Andrew Clarence Elam and his wife, Judy of Amelia and Captain Harry Bailey Elam and his wife, Della of Corrola, NC; one sister, Bernice Bailey Mortimer of Carrollton; grandchildren, Barbara Elam Murphree of Gloucester Court House and Daniel Elam of Richmond; and great granddauther, Kristina Joelle Murphree.

The family received friends from 7pm - 9pm on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
