Obituary
SMITHFIELD - Bernice Bailey Mortimer, 90, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband, Egbert Laird Mortimer. Bernice was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church and a retired special education teacher. She loved volunteering at the Military Ministries and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, William L. Mortimer (Sharon) of St. Augustine, FL, Michael R. Mortimer (Karen) of Virginia Beach, Allen B. Mortimer (Ella) of Surry; Grandchildren: William Scott (Kolleen), Jon Michael, Meghan Christine, Chad Vantz, Bailey Amanda, Charis Louise, and Mattie Elizabeth Mortimer; and a great granddaughter, Isla Keren Mortimer. The family will receive friends at 11 am Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Colonial Funeral Home followed by a service celebrating Bernice's life at 12 noon, with Pastor Lee Hess officiating. A reception will follow the service at Carrollton Baptist Church . Burial will be private in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. The family requests memorial donations to the Carrollton Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 267, Carrollton, VA 23314. Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA.
