YORKTOWN - Ed Hazelwood, died on Nov. 25, 2009.
Born in Lanexa, Va., he was a longtime resident of Tabb, Va., where he resided with his wife, Catherine.
Ed served in the Navy on an LST during WWII. He worked for N.N. Shipbuilding and Tenneco for 37 years. After retiring in 1986 Ed became an avid golfer playing mainly with his buddies, George Brooks, Harvey Hubbard and Frank Thieme. Traveling and fishing were also a big part of his retirement. He was also a member of VFW Post 824, Grafton; and the Blinded Veterans Association. Later when he became disabled his many neighbors were always willing to lend a helping hand, especially Sandra and Goat Blackburn, and Pat and Fred Paige.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kitty Hazelwood; two children, Ed Hazelwood III of Arlington, Adolia Marie Hazelwood Emerson of Morgantown, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jessica Marie Emerson Barnabei of Pittsburgh, Paul Cosby Emerson of Oregon, Eddie B. Hazelwood IV of Eastern Maryland, John Hazelwood of Centerville, Va., and Liza Marie Hazelwood of Maryland; and one great-grandson; Eddie B. Hazelwood V.
The family will receive friends at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va., on Sunday, Nov. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m.
There will be a graveside service at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, Va., on Monday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m.
