TOANO - Mr. John Curtis Hicks Jr., 80, passed away April 15, 2003. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Tripp. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L.; children, John Curtis Hicks III and his wife, Linda, Leroy Hicks, Mary Marie Hazelwood, Donald Hicks and his wife, Tina, Billy Hicks and his wife, Tina; two sisters, Susie Burcham and Lorene New; 11 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nelsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy L. Hicks, 79, of Lanexa, VA went to be with the Lord October 5, 2013.
She is survived by her children Curtis Hicks (Linda), LeRoy Hicks (Sandy), Mary Hazelwood, Donald Hicks, Bill Hicks (Tina); a sister Nancy Ross; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 8th at Liberty Baptist Church, 15810 Liberty Church Road, Lanexa, VA 23089. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 7th at Vincent Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140.

LANEXA - Betty Jean Westfall Otey, 82, a longtime resident of James City County, died Monday, April 23, 2012.
She was a former member of Smith Memorial Baptist Church and currently York River Baptist Church. She had been employed as a cashier for the Williamsburg Pottery for 22 years. But the love of her life was her family, enjoying crab-feasts and spoiling all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Sterling Otey Sr.
She is survived by eight children, Cathy Roynested, Joanne Black and husband John, Joseph S. Otey Jr., Raymond Otey, David L. Otey and wife Brenda, Clarence Otey, Nina Garret and husband Melvin, Richard "Ricky" L. Otey and wife Jamie; three sisters, Dorothy Hicks, Marlene Hazelwood and Nancy Ross; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, in the Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Williamsburg memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
