Obituary
LANEXA, VA. - Glennis Kathleen Hazelwood Davis, 89, went to be with her Lord on April 11, 2008. She was born July 4, 1918, in Richmond Va., to Charlie and Gracie Slater Hazelwood. She graduated from Toano High School in 1935 and lived most of her life in James City and New Kent Counties. She became a member of Liberty Baptist Church at age 13. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and James River Baptist Church, and re-joined Liberty after her move back to Lanexa. She loved to serve her church and community and volunteered in many capacities. The Toano Garden Club, where she was an accomplished exhibitor and judge, held a special place in her heart.
Glennis and Waverly Davis were married in 1937 and together they built a construction business and the Golden Key Motel & Restaurant in Lanexa. Her love of art was enhanced, as she studied painting with, M/Mrs. Allen Jones; Maribland Bryant Studio of Art; Rappahannock Community College; and Barclay Sheaks. At age 75 she became a certified Priscilla Houser Teacher in Tole & Decorative Painting. She traveled the east coast displaying her work at many art and craft shows. She loved fishing and camping, was an avid NASCAR fan, and any activity or event her family was involved in.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Waverly S. Davis; an infant son, George; her parents; her brothers, Archie C. Hazelwood and Charles Waverly Hazelwood; an infant grandson, a daughter-in-law, Mary Helen Tinsley Davis; and a son-in-law, William Wilkerson Jr.
Left to cherish fond memories are her daughter Norma Linkous Wyatt and husband, Anon of Lanexa; son, Rev. Charles A. Davis and wife, Margaret of Mechanicsville; daughter, Patsy D. Farmer and husband, Buddy of Norge; grandchildren, Debbie Thomas, Karen Fuller, Catherine Blackwell, Tammy Stein-Davis, Mark Davis, Beth Belvin, Vickie Hugate, Christie Hodges, Steven Farmer, and Michael Farmer; 16 great-grand, and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frances Hazelwood, Joyce Myers, and Gladys Davis; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends. Her spirit of strength and determination will be an inspiration to all of us for the rest of our lives.
The family thanks Dr. Pranov Parikh, his nurse, Felicia; and the nurses at Sentara Wmsbg. Med. Center for their gentle care and support. Contributions may be made to the James City/Bruton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Dept., or the Toano Garden Club, 3030 N. Riverside Dr. Toano VA 23168.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, Va. The burial will follow in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, Barhamsville, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, at Vincent Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA.
