Obituary
TOANO - Raymond Earl "Poppy" Stewart, 69, of Toano, Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. He served in the National Guard. Raymond retired from the Virginia State Highway Department. He loved the outdoors. Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening and shared his passion with his two sons. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth Gibson Stewart; a daughter, Deborah Roberts of Richmond; two sons and their wives, Richard Earl and Lore Stewart, James Edward and Tracy Stewart, all of Lanexa; a special granddaughter, Angel Graves and her husband, Christopher, of Toano, who was a true angel in his time of need; four grandchildren, Karen, Joshua, Hunter and Maggie; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Briana, and Marques; a brother, Edward "Wilford" Stewart and his wife, Lois, of Toano. A special thanks to Norge Dialysis Center for their professional services and care. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, Va. Burial at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. TOANO - Ruth Gibson Stewart, 66, passed away Jan. 18, 2008.
Ruth was a caretaker in the truest sense of the word. She was happiest when babysitting, caring for a sick loved one or simply spending time with her family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and her parents, Maciel and Gus Gibson Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Roberts of Richmond; and two sons, Richard Stewart and his wife, Lore, and Jamie Stewart and his wife, Tracy, all of Lanexa. Ruth is also survived by five grandchildren, Angel Graves and her husband, Chris, Karen Wiscott, Josh Apperson, Hunter Stewart and Maggie Stewart; and three great-grandchildren, Briana, Marques and Chris Jr.; as well as 16 nieces and nephews, and 32 great-nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are her three sisters, Jean Ripley and her husband, Otto, of Williamsburg, Betty Kilford of Williamsburg, and Judie Grablewski and her husband, Ron, of Lanexa; and two brothers, Gus Gibson Jr. and Debi, and Bobby Gibson and Diane, all of Williamsburg.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, Va.
