Whereas James Stanley son of James Stanley of the County of Hanover and Elizabeth Elison daughter of William Ellyson of the County of New Kent having declared their Intentions of taking each other in marriage for several monthly meetings of the people called Quakers according to the good order used amongst them, and were approved by the said meetings & having consent of Parents & Friends concerned.

The said James Stanley & the said Elizabeth Ellyson appearing in a publick meeting of the aforesaid people held at Black Creek in the County of New Kent on the 23rd of the 10th month 1754 and then and there in the said assembly the said James Stanley did take the said Elizabeth Ellyson to be my wife promising to be unto her a true & loving husband until death or words to that effect---- and then immediately the said Elizabeth Ellyson having the said James Stanley by the hand and openly declares as follweth ---- You are my witnesses that I take James Stanley to be my Husband promising to be unto him a true loving & obedient wife until death or words to that effect, and the said James Stanley and the said Elizabeth Ellyson his now wife for a further confirmation of their marriage have hereunto subscribed their names the said Elizabeth taking upon her self the Stanley surname of the said James Stanley & we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present at the solemnizing of this said marriage & subscription aforesaid also as witnesses set our hands.
