“A very pretty home wedding took place on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Joanna Tyree, No. 612 Louisiana Street, when Miss Maggie M Tyree became the bride of Mr. John D Dowden, of Portsmouth, VA. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. David Hepburn, pastor of Fulton Baptist Church. The bride wore a traveling suit of gray, with hat and gloves to match. The ushers were Messrs. Felix Wright and Richard Matthews. Mr. Matthews acted as best man. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Dowden took the train to Portsmouth, where they will make their home. Mr. Dowden is an employe at the navy yard at Portsmouth.” Times Dispatch, Volume 1904, Number 16437, 3 January 1904
