Attended Longwood and Madison Colleges. Taught school before she married, then was deputy treasurer for her husband for 42 years. Charter member of Quinton Community House Association and Martha Dandridge Woman's Club. Active member of the Quinton Homemaker's Club, Early Settlers Club, Providence Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for 20 years, served on the Official Board, was President and Secretary of the Methodist Women's Society and Past President of the Richmond District of the Hermitage Guild.

Graduate of Smithdeal-Massey Business College, served as a director and vice president of the Citizens and Farmers Bank of West Point, Virginia for 40 years and was a charter member of the New Kent Ruritan Club. He was active in Providence Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, trustee and secretary-treasurer of the Memorial Association.
