MOUNTCASTLE
Richard Edloe Mountcastle Jr., 88, of Providence Forge, Va., died May 22, 2002 at his home. He was born January 12, 1914 in Providence Forge and lived his entire life in his hometown. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ware Mountcastle; his brothers, George Warren Mountcastle and James Christian Mountcastle; his sister, Dorothy Christian Mountcastle; and a stepson, William Walker Chapman. He is survived by a daughter, Sallie Powers and her husband, John G. Powers and their children, Fayette and Macon; a son, Richard Ware Mountcastle and his wife, Margaret and their children, Melissa, Denise and Trittie; a daughter, Mary Lou Maddox and her husband, Drew and their children, Noel and Brandon; a former stepdaughter-in-law, Betty Milliken; and his grandchildren, Malinda Chapman Harrington and Amy Chapman Bath; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Mary Beth Harrington and Austin and Annalise Bath; and his brothers, Harry Freeman Mountcastle and Thomas Hill Mountcastle. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, on Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Forge Presbyterian Church and followed by a graveside service at Olivet Church Cemetery, both in Providence Forge. Family and friends are welcome at his home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Providence Forge Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. No. 1 or Providence Forge Rescue Squad.
