TOANO - Howell P. Hazelwood Jr. of Toano went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2002. A graduate of V.P.I., Howell was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as the director of the Endowment Fund. He was also a trustee of Rosegarden Cemetery in New Kent County and a former member of the Board of Directors for Southern States. Howell served his country during the Korean War as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Courtney Hazelwood; loving daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Hazelwood and Travis Bridewell, Melinda Hazelwood and Robert Hofrichter; mother-in-law, Martha Brizendine; grandchildren, Robert Howell Hofrichter and Hannah Marie Hofrichter; brother and sister-in-law, Carroll T. and Katherine Russell Hazelwood; niece, Holly Hazelwood; nephew, Thomas M. Hazelwood and wife, Amy; great-nephew, Robert Russell Hazelwood. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Liberty Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
