Ocie Josephine "Jo" Hazelwood Smith, 91, died on Feb. 18, 2011. She was a lifelong resident of James City County.

Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon United Metho?dist Church for 73 years and a charter member of the Susan Richards Circle. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and flower arranging and was active in the Toano Garden Club for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 72 years, James W. Smith; a sister; four brothers; and an infant great-grandson.

She is survived by four children, Lanny Smith (Betty); Warren Smith (Kathy); Keith Smith (Lucy); and Kim Ivey (Gordon); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Berger and Lucille Otey of Lanexa.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Bucktrout Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Toano, on Monday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Craig
presiding, followed by interment in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
