POQUOSON - Michael Ray Hazelwood, 51, a native of Newport News and Poquoson resident the past 28 years, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.
He was a Pipe Insulator in X44 Dept. at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co.
Michael was a former member of the Magnum Hunt Club; former member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge, Poquoson; was an avid hunter, fisherman, and NASCAR fan; and a Methodist.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Ray B. and Rosie Mae Wilson Hazelwood.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Vicky M. Hudson Hazelwood; a son, Corporal Robert Michael Hazelwood of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; two daughters, Michelle Leigh Mayer of Poquoson, and Susan Nicole Hazelwood of Hampton; two brothers, Richard Lee Hazelwood of Toano, and Jerry L. Hazelwood of Newport News; a sister, JoAnne Williams of Newport News; three grandchildren, Jordan Michael Wilson of Newport News, Tyler Scott Mayer of Poquoson, and Joseph Lee Woody of Hampton; and a special friend, Nick Gurnicke.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and other times at the home. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home by the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
