AUSTIN, Grace Whitlow, 91, of Varina, slipped quietly into God's hands on September 12. She was born in Richmond on April 21, 1917 to the late John H. Whitlow and Mary F. Clarke. She was a devoted wife, having spent her life caring for her beloved husband, Clyde L. Austin, who preceded her in death in 1988. Grace was a loving mother that had a special way of making all of her children feel as though each was her favorite. Survivors include three sons, Clyde L. Jr. and wife, Joanne of Sandston, John B. and wife, Kaaron of Varina, and Charles L. of Varina; two daughters, Grace A. Dowdy and husband, Henry of Quinton, and Mary A. Simons and husband, Richard of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Loni Austin of Varina; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 15, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Chapel. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. the following day at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 8000 Franklin Farms Dr., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23229.
