Obituary
Nellie Elizabeth Walls, Major, (U.S. Army, Retired), 92, of Richmond, died Sunday, November 28, 2004. Major Walls served as a battlefield nurse during World War II. She served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps from November 1, 1942 to October 31, 1962, attaining the rank of Major. She was a member of the Retired Officer Association (TROA) and the Retired Nurses Corps. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Thomas L. Walls Sr., George Keith Walls and Suzanne W. Lough; great-nieces and nephews, Simmons Lough, Meredith Lough, Kristen Walls and Thomas Walls Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Ann Walls. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to a charity of your choice.
