Obituary
DEAN, Constance Whitlow, age 89, was born on February 21, 1923 to Maude Hicks Whitlow and John Henry Whitlow Sr. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joe Whitlow and John Whitlow Jr. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Hilton Dean; daughter, Beverly; son, Rusty and his wife, Tee Doyle Dean; two grandchildren, Tres and Maddy Dean. Connie was born on Orleans Street in the once thriving and close-knit neighborhood of Fulton Bottom, in Richmond's East End. The qualities of giving and loving she learned in this neighborhood were practiced all her life. Connie attended Robert Fulton Elementary School and the old John Marshall High School. She was extremely fortunate in life to have the love and devotion of her family members and friends. The friends she made in Fulton, she kept all her life. Connie was especially privileged to have the love and devotion of her nephew, Kenny Whitlow and his son, Cole. Connie and Cole spent many hours putting together puzzles and cooking in her kitchen. In Cole's words, "Aunt Connie was the best cook in the whole world." Connie experienced many wonderful moments in her life, but without a doubt her two biggest joys were the births of her long-awaited and beloved grandchildren, Tres and Maddy Dean. Her time spent with Tres and Maddy meant everything to her. Later in life, Connie was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She was once again blessed with her caregivers, doctors and medical providers. We, Connie's family would like to thank Cecilia Warren, who cared for Connie and gave her much love and support for five years. Also, thanks to Tammy Krukiel, her nurse practitioner and Kim Kothe, her favorite physical therapist. Finally, but definitely not least, to Midge Flannagan, Connie's niece and last caregiver go the thanks of a grateful family. We could not have managed without you. Your love and care for her was extraordinary. The family will receive friends Monday, July 23, 2012 from 12 to 2p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond Va. 23231. A private graveside service at 2:30 p.m. for family will be at Washington Memorial Park. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Henrico County Rescue Squad, Engine Company #3, P.O. Box 911, Sandston, Va. 23150.
