Obituary
On Tuesday, March 30, 2004, from pulmonary fibrocyst. Beloved husband for 48 years of Florence Culley Binford. He is survived by three children, Christie Thompson (Chad) of Blacksburg, VA, John Q. Binford, Jr. (Lisa) of Oak Hill, VA and Bonnie Kramer (Brian) of Parksley, VA; and five grandchildren. Friends may call at THE MURPHY FUNERAL HOME OF ARLINGTON, 4510 Wilson Blvd., on Thursday, April 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA. Inurnment will take place Wednesday, April 14, 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Memorial Baptist Church Foundation.

John Quarles Binford Sr., 84, former budget director of the Department of Veterans Affairs, died of pulmonary fibrosis March 30 at Virginia Hospital Center-Arlington.
For 34 years, Mr. Binford worked at the VA, from its district office in Richmond in 1946 until he retired in 1980 as a member of the Senior Executive Service. After his retirement, he worked part time as a tax preparer. He was born in Glen Allen, Va., and graduated in 1939 from the now-closed Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond. He also took classes at the University of Richmond and American University.

BINFORD FLORENCE CULLEY BINFORD Florence Culley Binford went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2016. She was 89 years old. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, John Quarles Binford and brothers William, Edgar, Harold and John Culley. She is survived by her children, Christie Thompson and husband, Chad, of Blacksburg, Virginia, John Binford of Alexandria Virginia and Bonnie Kramer and husband, Brian, of Hudgins Virginia and by her grandchildren, Lauren and Adam Binford, Ashley Thompson Mock and husband, Joey, and Abbie, Calvin and Claire Kramer and two great-grandchildren, Callie and Cate Mock and by her brothers, James Culley and wife, Alice, of Bumpass Virginia, Charles Culley and wife, Doris, of Hanover Virginia, Bonnie Culley and wife, Polly, of Midlothian Virginia, Robert Culley of Richmond Virginia, sister-in-law Wilma Culley of Mechanicsville Virginia and many nieces and nephews. Florence grew up in Glen Allen, Virginia and worked for the Virginia Highway department for 12 years prior to marrying and moving to Arlington. She was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church of Arlington for many years with many friends there. She enjoyed singing in the choir. She liked to play tennis and dance. She was an avid bridge player, attaining the rank of Bronze Life Master at duplicate bridge. She served others by volunteering with the Arlington Hospital Auxiliary. She was a loving mother to her children and taught them to be responsible, to stand up for themselves and to use proper manners and English. She was a strong woman as a result of growing up the only girl with 8 brothers. She will be dearly missed. The family will receive visitors, Friday February 19 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA.
