Obituary
DANVILLE, Va. - Hazel Stanfield Thomas, 83, of 709 Lansbury Drive, Danville, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for one month and in the hospital for the past three weeks.

Born Sept. 25, 1920, in Halifax Co., Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie Witcher Stanfield and the late Maude Meeler Stanfield.

Mrs. Thomas had lived all of her life in Halifax County and Danville. She had retired from the Old Dutch Supermarkets due to health reasons, where she worked as a cashier with 25 years of service. Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Echo's and the #1 Circle of the Church. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens and of the A.A.R.P.
She married the late James Lanier Thomas on October 7, 1942. He died on December 14, 1980.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Lanier Thomas and wife, Leigh Ann of Danville, Va.; one sister, Ila S. Williams of Quinton, Va., granddaughter, Kendra T. Ermel of Roanoke, Va. and grandson, Kevin L. Thomas of Danville, Va.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Stanfield and Wallace Stanfield.

The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Randy Duncan officiating.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times will be at the residence of her son, Ronald and Leigh Ann Thomas, 212 Vicar Place, Danville.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Saint Luke's United Methodist Church, 3090 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540.

Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main is in charge of arrangements.
