BURCHAM, Emily Couch. We celebrate the life of Emily Couch Burcham, 85, a lifelong resident of New Kent, Va., who departed this life on January 27, 2016, at Our Lady of Hope in Richmond, Va. The Lord came to take our mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother (GG) home to be with Him; her mother, Ann Couch; her father, Robert W. Couch; her husband, James O. Burcham; her first grandchild, LeAnn M. Burcham; her sister, Gladys Otey; and her brother, Robert W. Couch. Emily leaves behind three sons, James "Jimmy" Burcham, William "Billy" Burcham and his wife, Kim, Gregory "Greg" Burcham and his wife, Julie; four grandchildren, Cyndel Haney, Samantha Rogers, Nicholas Burcham and Noah Burcham; four great-grandchildren, Kylie and Michael Rogers Jr., and Ella and Lena Haney; sisters, Bettie Masini and Pat Cole; brothers, James Couch and his wife, Jean, Emmett and his wife, Rose, Thomas Couch; and sister-in-law, Mildred Couch; and many nieces and nephews. Emily worked and retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Va. Emily was an active and faithful member of Corinth Baptist Church. She spent her days after retiring devoting much of her time to her family, her church and anyone in need. You could find her at the center of all social gatherings armed with a plethora of childhood/personal experiences to contribute to any conversation. She was adventurous and loved to travel- ready to go anywhere and try anything, from digging for gold in a 100-degree clay pit, to sightseeing in Alaska with her sister. She was fun-loving, creative and crafty-able to cross-stitch a mantle-worthy work of art while simultaneously cooking a home-style country dinner, and winning a game of hide-and-seek with the grandkids from behind the barn. In her last few years, Emily lived with Alzheimer's. She will be remembered for the beautiful person she was and for all the more beautiful we were because of her. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va. 23140. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Vincent Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Dr., Sandston, Va. 23150. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Corinth Baptist Church, P.O. Box 126, New Kent, Va. 23124. Donations will go the The Shoe Box Mission/Lottie Moon Mission/Armstrong Mission.
