Obituary
WALLS, Henry Ernest Sr., 95, of Richmond, Va., entered into eternal rest August 25, 2013 at the home of his daughter. He was born July 4, 1918 in Richmond, the son of the late Henry O. Walls and Lucille Kirby Walls. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Gladys R. Davis Walls. Henry retired in 1979 from the DuPont plant in Richmond after 40 years of service. In 1954 he co-founded the Little Appliance Company, where he sold and repaired appliances for 30 years along with his shift work. Family and friends will remember Henry as a kind and gentle man who was talented with his hands and could repair just about anything. In 1970, Henry and Gladys built their river home at Cole's Point, Va. so that family and friends could share their passion for the "river life." All will remember the fun days of fishing, swimming, skiing and steamed crabs. Henry was a member of Montrose Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he spent many hours volunteering his time. He took care of the grounds, provided and kept the appliances working, and helped with the general maintenance of the church facility. In 1996, Henry and Gladys moved to the Masonic Home of Virginia. After Gladys' passing in 1998, Henry remained at the home until his health did not allow him to live alone, and he moved to his daughter's home. Henry was a member of the Thomas N. Davis Lodge No. 351, Varina Lodge No. 272, and Montrose Chapter No. 176, O.E.S. Henry served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a proud member of the American Legion. Henry is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Finch and her husband, Bob; son, Ernie Walls Jr. and his wife, Patty; grandchildren, Kevin Saunders and his wife, Donna, Randy Saunders, Cindy Walls DiCello and her husband, Lou, Kim Saunders Raat and her husband, Dean, Julie Walls Keen and her husband, Scott, and Linda Finch; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Christopher, Katheryn, Jackson and Isabel. Visitation will be held at Billups Funeral Home Wednesday, August 28, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with Masonic and Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29 at Montrose Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Washington Healthcare, Hospice, c/o Mary Washington Hospital Foundation, 2600 Mary Washington Blvd., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401, or your local SPCA.
