Robert W. Couch, Jr., 82, died Monday, August 10, 2015 at Hospice House/ Hospice of the Piedmont, in Charlottesville, VA.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Mildred (South) Couch; his daughter, Annette Couch-Jareb and her husband, Ivan J. Jareb; his daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Mull Couch: his grandchildren, Caitlin Leigh Couch, Megan Ashley Couch, Della Ruza Jareb, Sasa Ivo Jareb; siblings Emily Burcham, James Couch, Emmet Couch, Thomas Couch, Betty Masini, Pat Cole, and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Wayne Couch, (2001).
Born and raised in New Kent, Virginia, the son of Robert Wesley Couch, Sr. and Ann Elizabeth (Crump) Couch, he was a resident of Keswick, Virginia for the past fifty-eight years. He met his wife in New Kent, Virginia and they were married in 1957 at Corinth Baptist Church.
In his early years, Mr. Couch served in the U.S. Air Force where he set-up the first TV/radio station north of the Arctic Circle in Thule, Greenland. After his marriage to Mildred Couch, he moved to Charlottesville, VA where he was employed by Sperry Corporation for thirty years. Upon “retirement” from Sperry, he and his wife opened an antique shop, A&W Collectables in Keswick, Virginia, and ran the business together for twenty-one years He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business.
Mr. Couch took great pleasure and pride in his hobby as a builder. Over the course of his lifetime, he built five homes in his spare time and took great pleasure in assisting friends and family with various building projects.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 13 at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA at 2 PM. The family will receive guests at the same location, one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House, 501 Park St. Charlottesville, VA 22902.
