HENRICO - Samuel E. Otey Sr., 72, of Henrico, passed away June 20, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel Otey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Penny Thacker Otey; children, Samuel E. Otey Jr. (Melinda), Brian K. Otey, Tammy O. Robbins (Billy); five grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, B.J., Wyatt Otey and Dylan Robbins, stepgrandchildren, Kayleigh and Devvin Tooley; step-great-grandchild, Dustin; brother, Herbert B. Otey (Dehlia); sisters, Hazel O. Fletcher (Charlie), Ethel O. Dunlap (Don), Frances O. Wallbank (Jim), Edith O. Deutsch (Joe), Gladys O. Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.
Sam was a self employed roofer who owned his own business. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, L&B Hunt Club and Diascund Hunt Club. He loved his family dearly and lived for hunting season. He will be greatly missed by his family who also loved him very much.
The family received friends from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., where a funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 24. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
