TOANO - Irving M. Stewart, 74, of Toano, Va., died Monday, April 11, 2005. He retired from NASA as an aircraft mechanic supervisor. Irving was a Korean War Air Force veteran. He was a lifelong member of Liberty Baptist Church where he actively served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maxine Stewart; a daughter and her husband, Sandy and Raymond Edwards of Fredericksburg; a son and his wife, Gregory M. and Shannon Stewart of Meridian, Miss.; brother and his wife, Clarence and Pat Stewart of Lanexa; seven grandchildren, Christina Leiden, Ashley West, Nick West, Jeff West, Victoria Stewart, Tanner Stewart and Brayden Stewart; three great-grandchildren, Carleigh, Sydney and Paul Leiden. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, Va. Interment will be in church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, Va. WEST POINT - Maxine Shanks Stewart, 81, of Toano, departed to her heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 26, 2014 in Toano, VA. Waiting at the gate for her was her beloved husband Irving Milton Stewart. Maxine was born in Milboro, VA to Raymond and Elva Shanks on November 25, 1932. She was an active member at Liberty Baptist Church for 55 years. She served her church family in many faucets which include but not limited to teaching the 3 year old preschool class for 25 years. Maxine loved the kids and enjoyed teaching them about Jesus as well as teaching their children over the years. She served in the Women's Missionary Union in several positions and was a faithful member of the Oliver Hale Circle. She loved her Sunday school class and enjoyed the time she spent with her beloved friends until the very end of her life. Maxine also enjoyed her precious walking buddies, Faithful Hardees friends and her bingo partners at Chick-Fil-a. We know her life was extended by all of her friends that touched her life and keep her going. She lived a full and happy life and served her creator faithfully. Maxine loved the Lord with all her heart. She would not want anyone to cry for her but to remember her as being made whole and in heaven praising the Lord with her loved ones that have passed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Elva Shanks; husband Irving Milton Stewart; two brothers Wilson and Johnny Shanks and twin grandchildren Noah & Faith Edwards. Maxine is survived by her son and daughter in law Gregory & Shannon Stewart of Collinsville, MS; daughter and son-in-law Sandra & Raymond Edwards of Fredericksburg, VA; brother and sister-in-law Leo & Emma Jean Shanks of Milboro,VA ; two sisters-in-law Marie Shanks of Milboro, VA and Pat Stewart of Lanexa, VA; nine grandchildren Victoria, Tanner & Brayden Stewart of Collinsville, MS and Christinia Leiden, Ashley Mullins, Nicholas & Jeffery West, Joshua and Melody Edwards all of Fredericksburg, VA; ten great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews who she all held very dear to her heart. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30th at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday before the service at the church. Vincent Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
