George A. Philbates, Jr., 80, of New Kent, VA died Sunday, December 22, 2013. He was the owner and operator of Philbates Auto Wrecking for 58 years. George was a member of Pamunkey United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys Philbates. George is survived by his wife, Becky Philbates; four children, George Philbates III, Patricia Berry (Wade), Cynthia Fields (John) and Kenneth Philbates; three stepchildren, John D. Hott, Jr (Kristen), William Hott, and Mary Catherine Crowder (John); a brother, Floyd Philbates (Betty); a sister, Julia Harlow (Sammy); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Thursday, December 26th at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. Burial will follow in Pamunkey United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
