Anthony John Kurek, Jr., “Tony”, 73, of Urbanna, passed away December 20, 2014 after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Kirby, his two sons, Christopher Kurek (Mary Ann) and Gregory Kurek (Ellen), three grandchildren and two sisters, Frances Kurek and Theresa Thompson (Ray).
Tony retired from the West Point paper mill as a certified, Triple A welder. After retirement, Tony started his bush hogging business and “handy man” service until his disease forced him to stop.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, traveling, and being of service to others. He especially loved his family and children of all ages. Tony was a member of The Catholic Church of the Visitation in Topping.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 3570 King William Avenue, West Point, VA. Interment will follow in St. Theresa Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan’s Fund at The Catholic Church of the Visitation, (P. O. Box 38, Topping, VA 23169), or Jacob’s Ladder, Inc. (P. O. Box 555, Urbanna, VA 23175), an enrichment program for children who are gifted and at risk.
Tony, you will truly be missed.
