Mrs. Katherine Marie Sharrer, 85, of Frederick, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 with her family by her side at Sunrise Assisted Living in Frederick. She was the loving wife of Donald F. Sharrer for 65 years. Born in Burkittsville, on February 24, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Maude Stup Ahalt.
Mrs. Sharrer was a graduate of Brunswick High School and the Frederick Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.
She had worked for several years as a nurse at the Frederick Memorial Hospital and was retired after 25 years as an instructional aid at the Scott Key Center.
Her family would like to extend a thank you for the wonderful care given to her by the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are seven children, Donald F. Sharrer Jr., and his wife, Barbara, of Roanoke, Va., Katherine M. Ketterman and husband, George Jr., of Myersville, David M. Sharrer and wife, Beverly, of New Market, Mary V. McCuller and husband, Donald Sr., of Gettysburg, Pa., Sarah B. McCarty and husband, Michael, of Boonsboro, Cecilia A. Clark and husband, Hunter, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and John M. Sharrer and friend, Staci, of New Market; two brothers, Norman Ahalt and wife, Dorothy, of Frederick, and George Ahalt and wife, Jane, of Myersville; three sisters, Alberta Hill and husband, Clifford, of Thurmont, Ginger Sullivan, of Minn., and Pearl Pennington, of Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Ahalt and Harry Ahalt; one sister, Ruby Blevins and one great-grandson, Benjamin Ketterman.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick. The Rev. Richard Murphy, pastor of the church, wil be the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Frederick.
