NEWPORT NEWS - Josephine L. Lascara, a native of Newport News, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005. She was the wife of the late Vincent E. Lascara, M.D., and daughter of the late Joseph and Druscilla Hicks Lassiter. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She served in the Army Nurse Corps, retired as medical librarian and staff secretary at Hampton General Hospital, was a member of the Piney Point Garden Club, Hampton, and Newport News Medical Auxiliaries and served several years on the boards of the Peninsula Girls Club and the YMCA. Survivors include her sisters, Hazel L. Byerley of Tampa, Fla., Joyce L. Hartmann of Yorktown, Janice L. Bridges of Newport News and Evalyan L. Cannon of Smithfield; her brothers, Edward C. Lassiter of Stuart, Fla., Robert E. Lassiter of Chesapeake and G. Preston Lassiter of Yorktown; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Newport News. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 401 Lucas Creek Road, Newport News, VA 23602. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
