Harriet Green Scott died on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at The Culpeper. Born on November 26, 1925 on Main Street in Culpeper, she was the daughter of James Williams Green and Helen Armstrong Green of Culpeper.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, P. Winfree Fore, Jr.; her second husband, Meredith L. Scott; two sons, James G. Fore and P. Winfree Fore, III; three brothers, James W. Green, Jr., Andrew J. Green, and Angus M. Green; and two sisters, Nancy G. Moser and Lillian M. Green. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Fore Keatinge and Daniel W. Keatinge of Pacific Palisades, California, and Catherine Fore Hoffman and John W. Hoffman of Fort Defiance, Virginia; one brother and his wife, R. Duff Green and Mary M. Green of Culpeper, Virginia. Additional survivors include her grandsons and their wives, David R. Hoffman and Amy of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Robert C. Hoffman and Suzanne of Ann Arbor, Michigan, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Scott graduated from Culpeper High School in 1943 and from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in 1947. Active in community affairs, she served as chairman of the Culpeper Social Services Board, as chairman of the Culpeper Planning Commission, and as secretary of the Culpeper Republican Committee.
A long-time member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild, taught Sunday school, and volunteered at the Culpeper Food Closet. She was president of the Episcopal Church Women for many years, and also was elected to serve on the vestry.
Services are private.
