Annie Virginia DeGrange House died at 3:08 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at the age of 86 at the Manassas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Manassas, Va. She had been battling cancer for several months. She was born March 8, 1920, in Fauquier County, Va., and attended elementary and high school in Fauquier County. After her late husband, James Wilson House, retired from the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Arlington, Va., in the 1970s, the couple relocated to the Land of Luray, about five miles west of Luray, Va. James died Nov. 7, 1991, and in 2003, Annie moved to the Fairmont Independent Living Home in Manassas, Va., and remained there until she was diagnosed with cancer. Annie was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, Va. She was a devoted wife and mother. James and Annie were married for 54 years. She managed the bakery several years for Giant Foods and later was employed as a caregiver for the elderly. She was a master at crocheting and loved making potholders for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Sarah McClanahan DeGrange; one brother, Edgar DeGrange; one sister, Mary DeGrange Baxter; and a daughter, Audrey Mae House Umberger. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Warree House Gregory and Margaret Ann House Hokula Moseley; and a sister, Warree Sarah DeGrange Hollar; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Burial will be beside her husband at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Va. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20109. Services will be on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville, VA 20181, with Pastor Meeks officiating.
