Diran J. Chilian, 88, of Pinehurst, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst, with Dr. Glenn Miller officiating.
Mr. Chilian was born in Iraq and came to the United States in 1948 with the Iraqi delegation to the United Nations. After several years he established his own, successful business exporting genuine American automobile products to the Middle East. When he retired to Pinehurst, he enjoyed playing golf, bridge and was an active member in Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances; his daughter, Linda, of Raleigh; son, Ronald and wife, Teresa; two grandsons, Andrew and Thomas, of Dallas; brother, Henry, of Haworth, N.J.; sister, Armine, of Elmwood Park, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112, or a charity of choice.
