Misc. Notes
William McMichael (1805 - 1876), a son of Isaac and Miriam, was born in the month of March 1805 and died in 1876 at the age of 71 years. He was a captain in the Civil War, and he held musterings and recruited men athis place, and the neighbors came from miles around, and helped to feedand quarter the men. There were huge brick ovens and clay ovens, in the yard for baking and cooking. Mrs. Jeffries remembers an old log cabin inthe yard which may have been a fort. (She states that "my mother, Mrs.Eliza Jane (McMichael) Snodgrass and my two older brothers, Albert J. andWilliam J. and myself, Martha Alma (Snodgrass) Jeffries, visited there every year, and my brothers would dress up in grandfathers military regalia, even to the epaulets and swords." Mrs. Schall, adds the note, that the log cabin, or fort, spoken of above, was erected by JamesMcMichael, before the Revolution.6
