J. NELSON EWING, farmer, post office Oakdale Station, was born in Allegheny county, Pa., April 29, 1821, a son of William and grandson of Alexander Ewing. He was reared on a farm in Robinson township, and educated at the common schools. In 1844 he came to North Fayette township and purchased ninety acres of his present home. He married Margaret, daughter of Parker Lorain and granddaughter of Mrs. Steivert, who was a Miss Walker, and with her sister and brother was captured by the Indians. To Mr. and Mrs. Ewing three children have been born: Eliza Jane (Mrs. Bell), Anna (Mrs. Glass) and Amice M., attending school. Mr. Ewing is a highly respected citizen, has filled township offices and was justice of the peace ten years. He is a member of the U. P. Church; politically, a stanch democrat.
