Mrs. H.H. Clay, wdow of Major Hiland Henry Clay, and a member of an old and prominent Knox Co. family, died at 9:15 this morning at her home ay 259 N. Seminary, Galesburg, Ill. Her death followed ten yrs. of invalidism. Mrs. Clay had bee bedfast the last year, but her cheerful attitude and pleasant disposition were unfailing in her illness. Jennie E. Clay was born January 12, 1855 in Pittsford, vermont and came to the country near Galesburg at 20yrs old to teach school. After 2yrs of teaching, she was married on October 14, 1878 in Gaysville, Vermont, near her bith place to Major H.H. Clay.They came to the Clay farm and resided there until he sucumed on JAN. 11, 1917. Mrs. Clay soon moved to Galesburg. Nine children were born to the couple. Mrs. Clay was an active member of the Universalists Church.
