Caroline "Carrie" A. Woodward was born in Hanover, Indiana in 1835, and was married to Thomas A. Peoples in Hanover in November 1863. He was a soldier in the Civil War and was killed May 13, 1864.

She then married Frederick Sheets in 1879; he died July 6, 1891 from a motorcycle accident.
