Isabella Carey Isabella A. Carey, deceased came from an industrious and hardy race. She was the daughter of George and Lucy House. She was born in White River Township, Hamilton County, Indiana Oct 11, 1843. After more than a half century of usefulness, like the setting of the sun when the day is done, she departed this life in the evening of May 18, 1899, at her home in Perkinsville, age 55 years, 7 months, and 8 days. She was united in marrige to Jonathan Cary Dec 24, 1865. Hence for more than a third of a century they walked together. In these passing and eventful years there were born six children, five of whom survive their mother. Mrs. Carey was converted when 13 years of age, and immediately united with the Hopewell class on Bear Creek, and ever after lived a consistent Christian life. She with her husband, when Harvey's Chapel class was organized in the winter of 1872, joined this class, of which she continued a faithful member until the present time. She ever proved her loyalty to the church and to God by giving of her time and means. Her home was always the home of the itinerant, and all who chanced to pass found shelter and were fed. She was a great student of the Bible, and loved to read its pages and rest on its promises, having read it through a number of times. The last few months of her life, she suffered much, but complained not. She took great comfort and consolation in knowing that she was ready, and exhorted all to the last to gospel. The last few days of her life, she talked of her new home, and longed to go and be at rest. Her last moments were calm and serene. Her life is ended, her work is done, and she has trimphed in Jesus' name. her funeral was preached by Rev. A.E. Sarah of Windfall, her former pastor, assisted by Rev. J.E. Ferris of Perkinsville. Text 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, verses of the 19th chapeter of Job. Footnote from library. Carey Cemetery block b, row 2.
