Walter W. Burke, age 87 of Carthage died Tuesday (May 3, 2011) at Peak Resouce – Pinelake.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Gainesville United Methodist Church in Gainesville, VA, conducted by the Rev. John Patterson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Alexandria, VA he was a son of the late Richard Burke and Eula Moore Burke. He served his country during WWII in the US Army, 88th Infantry Division and was a P.O.W. Following his military service he worked for the Federal Government in Fairfax, VA until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife Faith Ellis Burke.

He is survived by: sons Wally Burke of Carthage and David Burke of Oak Island; three grandchildren and four great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends in the Gainesville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall after the funeral services.
