John was born in Marion to David and Betty (Galbreath) Meade, and his father preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Marion High School. He married Bev (Davis) Meade on March 7, 1987 and she survives. He was the owner and operator of Gas City Towing. He was a former employee of Harner's Service Center of Jonesboro. He was a member of Hillside Wesleyan Church. He was a NASCAR fan, especially Dale Jr. He was an avid sports fan for the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers, IU, the Marion Giants and the Mississinewa High School girls' basketball team. He was a veteran.
