Solomon Shanafelt, the son of Henry (1803-1847) and Hannah (Hartle) Shanafelt (1802-1835) was christened SOLOMON, on October 14, 1829 at Zion Reformed Church, Washington County, Maryland.
Solomon's sister,
Sarah (Shanafelt) Ballard, is buried in the northwest section of this cemetery. His sister, Sophia (Shanafelt) Reagan, who is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, Indiana, was married to
Cary Reagan who is buried 3 stones to the south of Solomon. The 1857 grave of Solomon's 23 year old sister, Elizabeth Jane (Shanafelt) Alderson cannot be located but her husband
Amos, their two children
Clarence M. and
Sarah Catherine Alderson are located in this cemetery a couple of rows west of Solomon's grave. Amos' 2nd wife
Sarah Jane is buried to the left of Amos' stone.
Solomon's brother,
Samuel, moved to Texas with his wife, Catherine (Rusie). Siblings:
Sarah (Shanafelt) Ballard,Samuel, Sophia (Shanafelt) Reagan and
Elizabeth Jane (Shanafelt) Alderson.
He had two half-brothers,
George W. and
Wesley and one half-sister Eliza born to his father and 2nd wife, Elizabeth (Ward) Hanaway.
