Benjamin enlisted at Mooresville, IN on the 1st of July 1862 into Company H of the 54th Indiana Infantry Regiment and was discharged on September 26 1862. He re enlisted on September 3 1863 into Company E of the 12th Indiana Infantry Regiment, where he served with his brother-in-law, Thomas B. Fultz and his brother John. He was transferred to Company D of the 59th Indiana Infantry Regiment on July 17 1865 and was discharged on July 26 1865 at Louisville, KY. as a Sergeant.35
