Obituary
REX EWING JR. Rex C. Ewing Jr. passed away Dec. 16, 2012, in Las Vegas at age 89, surrounded by those he loved. He was born in Las Vegas, June 11, 1923, the third of six sons to Rex C. Ewing Sr., a miner and Helen LaValle Ewing, a housewife. His favorite childhood past-time was catching rattlesnakes. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. In 1949, along with brothers, Robert and Jack, he formed Ewing Bros. He was a well-liked boss and leader to over 110 employees. Rex traveled the country with his family in his motorhome. He loved being in the outdoors exploring, fishing, hunting and off-roading. At home, he was an avid gardener, wood-worker, and all-around fixer and tinkerer. His favorite place was Ewing Bros. His most peaceful place was Susanville, Calif., the halfway point between his homes, work and responsibilities in Las Vegas and Scottsburg, Ore. He was a good and decent man to many life-long friends, a lover of all animals and a man whose heart was bigger than his whole body. He was a hard-working father, husband and mentor. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Rex Sr. and Helen; brothers, Ralph, Harold, Robert and Jack; son, Roy; and stepson, Mickey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; brother, James; children, Rex III (Judy), Jay (Melodie), Cheryl, Craig and Randy; stepchildren, David and Debra; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
